I hurry on with my busy life
With scarcely the time to stop a moment
While in the background they stand observing
Intently interested in all I do
Every so often I hear from them
Receiving some gifts now and again
But time to notice or appreciate them
Barely enters my thoughts before I’m distracted
Yet they remain and continue giving
With nary a thought of a gift in return
Their hearts are grand, but you wouldn’t know
Words aren’t expressed, but the gifts keep coming
They keep giving and giving all they have
They’d keep on giving ‘til they had nothing
Yet they don’t receive all that much in return
While standing in the background of my life
I wish I had time to appreciate them
I try not to forget when a gift I receive
I know I could never give enough thanks
And I’ll always be indebted to them
When I’m busy and can’t find the time
When I don’t see them watching from afar
I hope they still feel my gratitude
From what little I can give in return
