Every present moment we live
Is a memory catalogued
In the files of our own mind
Telling the story of our lives
Regret is a curious thing
Gnawing away at our conscience
Measuring our integrity
Indicating where we went wrong
One day when we’re old and gray
We’ll review the files we’ve acquired
Some we might wish to throw away
Others we’ll cherish and relish
But today we have the chance
To write our own history
Every moment the pen records
Every action carves the story
Lincoln could never have known
During his day to day moments
That his actions would be remembered
And reverenced throughout history
Lincoln could never have seen
The millions of lives he would change
In following generations
From his simple decisions
We can’t see the reaching effects
From the story we write today
We know not how the story unfolds
We can’t see where the path may lead
But our lives are being recorded
And saved for a future date
To be shown as the starting point
Of all the great ripples we make
Today is when the story occurs
It’s currently in progress
Today we’ll make something happen
That will change the course of history
